Friday, June 21, 2013

Well guys...things have been a little crazy here the past couple days. It has been raaaaaaaaiinnny. Rainy!

It's stopped for now, but the results are pretty bad.
Needlesstosay...the rivers are flooding. I don't have any pictures myself, but feel free to check out some of these links.

I'm very grateful that our house and community are doing okay. But I definitely feel horrible for some communities that have MAJOR damage.

There's definitely more. But I just wanted to share that quick.

Sometimes rain sucks.

Hopefully we can make it to our flight on Sunday!
And everything is alright back here while we're gone!

Love you too.

Stay safe and dry.

Life and Education - some of my experiences

You know what I think?
Life isn't all that hard. You're born, you make decisions, you play, you make friends, you lose friends, you go to school, you graduate, you get jobs/go back to school, you date, you breakup, you get married maybe,  you potentially have kids, you travel, you die.
Yes, sometimes other challenges are thrown in along the way...but in general we all have the same basic decisions/challenges.
But for some of us, life seems a little more difficult than for others. Either we're indecisive, things happen in a little bit of a different order than we were expecting/planning, or major things happen that change things entirely. Life may not necessarily be harder...but it sure seems that way sometimes.
In my case, and probably many others' out there, school/job decisions have always been one of the most difficult.

As we're growing up, we're expected to figure out what we want to do for the rest of our lives with the minimal amount of experience and knowledge that we have. You want to be a doctor, you want to be an astronaut, you want to be a firefighter, heck some just know they want to be a mom/dad.

I have always loved animals growing up. When I was younger, I always thought I wanted to be a vet... helping and being around animals seemed like a dream job in my eyes. But in grade 9, I had the opportunity to 'job shadow' for a day and see what the duties would be like in such a position. I quickly realized after seeing a surgery, that it wasn't what I wanted to do at all. Yes, I realize that Veterinarians are helping animals and I'm sure they love them possibly as much as I do (though I doubt it...) but it just wasn't something I could do. What I really wanted to do, was just play with animals all day long and that's just not how it works (unfortunately). ;)

As I grew older, I never really had anything I KNEW I wanted to do (besides being a beach bum...but that's really not all that practical). I had ideas of what I could possibly be, but nothing I was especially passionate about.

So what's a Trudy to do?
Well, what I probably SHOULD have done is take a year off, work and just figure out what I wanted to do and go back when I have a decent amount saved.

What did I ACTUALLY do?
Went into nursing with my friend/cousin, Whitney. I quickly realized that I had made a mistake about half way into the semester. I wasn't enjoying most of what I was learning, I knew I wouldn't enjoy the job itself, and I didn't want to waste my money any longer. So I got out.

But I always felt I needed to go back (to school that is). So I did some researching, got into some testing and came up with another couple options. So I applied for both of these things at different schools and before I knew it, the next fall I was up in Edmonton attending the U of A. Technically I was in generals, but I was going for a major in Nutrition to become a Nutritionist or Dietician or something. I didn't have near enough money, so I had to apply for a big old student loan.
I made some good friends, I enjoyed the nutrition classes themselves and I didn't even mind Edmonton itself  but I didn't really want to be there. To be honest, I found myself pretty depressed and very homesick. I didn't understand what was going on in my chemistry classes, I should've asked for help but...well, I didn't. Not to mention I wasn't living in Edmonton itself, I was actually living about 30 minutes out of town (in Sherwood Park) and I didn't even have a vehicle...I had to take the bus everyday.

Are these all excuses?
Well somewhat. I should've stayed, but I should've lived in Edmonton itself and I should've gotten help when I was struggling.
Could've, should've, would've.
It's too late now. As they say, hind sight 20:20. It's easy to look back and say what we should or could have done.

So what have I been doing lately?
Well, I had raked in a decent amount of debt and I still didn't know what I SHOULD be doing. All along I kind of had an idea in my mind that I would find something PERFECT but it just wasn't coming.
I had found out that school was just too expensive to be dabbling around in when I wasn't sure.
So I worked. My brother needed help in Calgary and I was wanting a change, so to Calgary I went!
Along the way I had lots of great experiences, made some awesome friends and heck I even started dating someone, got married and POW! Here I am.
I'm a 22 year old girl, married, have been working for my brother (which is fine) for about 2 and a half years, have dabbled in school but never found out what I wanted to do.

And I'm going to be honest, I find the situation I'm in to be very difficult. I haven't been to school for 3 years, I'm married, I'm working and making decent money and Scott and I are now paying a mortgage. I can't just make rash decisions as I please because they don't just effect me anymore.
And although I know what my interests are, there's still no perfect job for me (that I know of anyways).

I know not everyone needs to get a post-secondary education, but just want it. You want to work for something and for it to be yours.

I want it.

What're your thoughts on education?
Anyone in the same boat?
Did you find your perfect job?

Let me know.

Love you too.

Vacations - where to?

It has been pretty busy here on my end for the past couple days!

STILL getting over this cold ;( GO AWAY!

I hope it hits the road soon...because soon WE'LL BE HITTING THE ROAD :D!
(Actually more hitting the know...).

When do you like to take trips/vacations??

I've only really taken trips in the Spring/Summer, because that seems to be the easiest time to go!
Sometimes, I would LOVE to take off in the Winter and go somewhere WARM!

Do you take trips/vacations every year?

Ideally, I like to take at least one trip or big vacation per year (if possible). I'm sure that won't always be a possibility, but the past few years have been good!
When I was younger, I hardly went on any trips. But the past 5 or so years, I've always done some sort of trip!

Where to this year?

Back to Texas! My sister, Tammy, and her little family lives there. I've visited 2 times now and I'm looking forward to going back!
Good times... ;)
Yes, I was just there 2 years ago with Hettie...but Scott has never been and I LOVE TEXAS :D

So Tammy, we're getting excited! Get ready...because we are ;)

Love you too.

PS. Answer the questions above yourself!

George loves to bird watch ;)

Weekend Shenanigans: Fish, DQ, and still sick...

So this past weekend, Scotty came home! I got to pick him and some fish up from the airport.
Yuck. (Not Scott, the fish).
I'm not a fan ;)

Then we got to hang out with Ben and Frances a bit, which was nice because it had been a while... Probably almost a month?
We got together for ice cream cake from DQ (as per our tradition) for Frances' birthday (which was the day before).
They also told us some big news! Not my place to share...on here for sure. But congratulations guys!

Sunday afternoon, the Russell's (well Russell girls, from Strathmore) came in to see the house, see the new kitten, and to share some delicious brownies and home made ice cream. A delicious treat indeed ;)~!

All weekend I had a squeaky...almost nonexistent voice due to my cold, and although my voice has come back...I'm still feeling sick :(
SO once again, I'm hoping I can get rid of it soon!

Fairly low key weekend on my end...

Was your weekend more eventful than mine??
At least less fishy?

Love you too.

PS. Did you see that my spider story came to an end?

PPS. We should probably end on a Bruce note ;)

Fresh Web

I have news!

Do you recall a certain 'uninvited guest' I mentioned?
I made a mistake in my kill technique (because it was huge and I was scared!) and it went missing.
It was missing for a couple weeks I was hoping it went to spidey hell!

But yesterday, I was proved I saw a fresh web had been made over the weekend.

How are you still alive??
There's no other bugs (that I'm aware of) in there...and it's been probably over a month now!
Were you sent to this Earth just to torment me?!?

(That's clearly all it could be.)

But, just this morning, my chance to redeem my previous kill attempt arose.
He had recently been living in the glove compartment as he was resting just outside.
I hesitated for a moment...I almost felt bad for the little (HUGE) guy.
Here he was, just resting...hoping for a little morsel of food to land in his web, while I squashed him dead.
Kill shot.
It was a flat surface, so I used the trusty Kleenex box again.
It was over quickly.
Hey, I did say I ALMOST felt bad for him...he IS still a spider after all, and he's been in MY space far too long...

My vehicle is now SPIDER FREE!
Unless he did end up laying eggs somewhere...
They're probably in my brain...

Love you too.

Weekend Shenanigans: Hair, Cookies and Family

TGIF! I know, I know...the weekend is pretty well here! And little old me is talking about last weekend. Woohoo~!

SO! If you know may or may not know that I frequently get bored of my hair. Yes, I only got my hair cut about 2 months ago and I could technically go about 6 months to a year! I'm always wanting to try something new, change it up, get it cut, or even colored (even though I've never got it colored...not really anyways). Heck, I've even got a perm because I was bored!

The past little while, I've been considering taking my hair shorter...but I was just too scared! But this past Saturday (after hot yoga...with my sweaty french braid) I decided I was going to go for it! I went to a different salon and stylist than I usually go to and asked her about short hair on me and what she thought would look good and this was the end result!

It's not NEAR as bad as I was expecting. It's a long it's fairly short in the back. But I was impressed! However, it was a pretty big shocker because I haven't my hair this short since...when it grew out from birth?
I liked how it looked straight...but how would it look with my natural waves?
The verdict?
Eh, it's alright. Looks pretty similar to how it normally looks...just shorter (duh -.-).
I do really like it though.
Just feel like it makes me look about 15 or so ;)

What do you think??

Lately, I've been on a bit of a cookie kick...always making basically the same recipe. I've mentioned Sally several times before, and I'm mentioning her again because...well....she makes delicious things!
So the cookies I've been making are Chewy Chocolate Chunk Cookies and guys...they are goooooooood~!
I generally follow her recipe to a T (well, besides my realizing that I was actually using one egg + one egg WHITE as opposed to one egg + one egg YOLK...whoops! They were still good) ;).
{One different thing about this recipe is it uses some CORN STARCH, which makes for some extra chewy cookies}.
However, last weekend I decided I wanted to try something a little different...I wanted peanut buttery cookies.
So I opened a few old Reese's Pieces and (chopped up) Reese from Halloween (hey, judge all you want...they were still good) threw 'em in and called it a day!

...these were yummy cookies ;)
Especially fresh, warm and gooey!

I would highly recommend them or any of Sally's treat's really ;)

{Oh and Nani...these are chilled overnight, making them chewy, thick and delicious!}

I also got to spend some time with the Russell's out in Strathmore. My niece, Ruth, was in a musical at school...The Little Mermaid. She was the herald (the little seahorse that makes announcements to the King)...she did good! Actually, the whole musical itself was quite good and humorous!
Especially considering it's high school acting ;D
Just kidding! Well done!

And congratulations to my 3 nieces that graduated over the past month!
Cassidy, Ruth, and all looked great!
Almost done!

And on that note...I shall bid you good day and good weekend!

What did you get up to last weekend?
What're your plans for this weekend?
Make anything delicious lately?

Scott gets back from fishing tomorrow - YAY!
I've missed you!

Love you too.

xo T

And I'll leave you with Bruce....because I think it's a swell idea!

(He fell asleep while waiting for me to finish showering and such)

PS. Did you read my post on pushing yourself?

PPS. Happy Birthday Frances!

PPPPPPP(?!?!)S. Some new 'rules' on sunscreen. Thought they were interesting and probably good to know!

Push Yourself

This is just a quick post before my actual post!

So, as I've mentioned many times, I go to hot yoga every morning before work. (And I am STILL loving it!)
Today was a teacher I'd never had I didn't quite know what to expect.
This class though, was VERY difficult. The room was much more hot than normal (I'm talking like you'd guess I had just gotten out of a pool with how dang sweaty I was) so with all this excess sweat, I was definitely slipping near the end on The Mat (from Lululemon).

And I don't know if it was the excessive heat, or just a different routine than I'm used to...but, as I mentioned, this class felt extremely difficult to me.
There were many points where I wanted to give just take a break and lay down, but I didn't!
And honestly, at the end of the I was like laying Shavasna, I was proud of myself (well, exhausted...but mainly proud)! It was a hard class, and sure I fell a few times...but I never gave up!

Now I'm NOT saying that you shouldn't take breaks when you're exhausted or are feeling faint, but I feel like sometimes (myself included) we sell ourselves short.
How will you grow or know what you're capable of if you don't push yourself...even just a little bit?

And I know not all of us do yoga, but this can apply to anything! Any workout, or any aspect of life really!

I'm alright at pushing myself in workouts (sometimes...definitely NOT always!), but in's so easy to be laid back OR LAZY.

Do you push yourself out of your comfort zone while working out?
Do you push yourself out of your comfort zone in life?

Try something new?
Try talking to someone new?
Go somewhere exciting?'s easy to do nothing. Trust me, I do it all the time ;)
I'm comfortable with my routine... comfortable just coming home to my kittens and Scott.
But sometimes, comfort isn't always better (then again, sometimes it is)! challenge for you (and me) is to push just a little harder, in whatever aspect you want!

Hold the pose just a few seconds longer...
Do just a few more reps or sets... (heck, even one more!)
Go try something new!

Learn your limits, and push them (safely)...just a little bit.

Most importantly...learn your balance, and be happy :)!

Go team!

Love you too.

Cereal for Trudy!

The sun is still shining :D Unfortunately, I've got a bit of a cold going on this week :( I'm hoping I can kick it soon! Silly cold...

This week, I'm also flying solo because Scott is on a big fishing trip with his dad.
SO, it's just me and the kittens!
I don't know what it is, but they've been extra cuddly at night lately. Last night, George was practically sleeping on my face - thanks bud, really appreciate it ;)

And just so you know Scott, I have cereal pretty well every day for dinner when you're gone. :D
Since the sun has been out this week, I've been enjoying going for walks when I get home from work as opposed to doing something silly... like cook dinner ;)
But tonight, I'm considering having eggs and broccoli...and maybe some fries as well. We'll see how much effort I want to put forth!
It's been a lazy week on the food front. But I don't mind!

Not a lot of time for posts today, but tomorrow I'll share what I did LAST weekend (as we're heading into the new one).

Friday is almost here!

Love you too.

xo T

PS. Scott and I are looking for a new/used vehicle for me...any suggestions would be appreciated :D Thanks!

New Addition

We'll start with one new thing today... and NO, it's not a baby.

Lately, I've been thinking George has been a little lazy/ lonely (in my eyes).

(this...pretty well sums his life up)
{so fluffy and cute!}

So about two and a half weeks ago...we (especially me) decided to add a little cutie to the crazy cat family!
And honestly, I just wanted another kitten as well ;D

 Blogging world...Meet Bruce (Wayne)!

 Oh hi there little cutie!

Since we've had George for close to a year now, we kind of forgot about what a pain little kittens are! Curious, messy, high energy, crazy!

This little guy can get up to big things! And he terrorizes George to no end. But surprisingly enough, you can tell George loves him. They're frequently playing together, grooming one another, and even sleeping/cuddling together!

There are frequently little 'mews' and annoyed 'mreows' in the air now. George doesn't get near as much 'alone time'... but he doesn't seem to mind so much.

And EVENTUALLY this little ball on energy should calm down!

I will admit though, it's nice to have someone who wants to cuddle again.

George would cuddle from time to time, but Bruce is a big cuddler...for now ;)
BUT...he's also an equally big whiner.

George has been surprisingly good and almost motherly with him.
It's sweet~!

And George has ALMOST gotten used to sharing all his things ;)
But he's definitely still getting used to all the snuggles.

Most of the time, he won't admit to them. And proceed to be a big old tough cat.

But Bruce can handle himself ;)
(He is Batcat afterall)

So get used to this little face! Because you'll probably be seeing lots more ;)

Love you too

xo T

PS. Here's George when he was just a wee kitten. We're thinking we may have gotten George when he was closer to 6 weeks because he was just a tiny ball of fluff. He was pretty dang cute!

Is that...sun I see?!

Well hey there! I'm the person that blogs for a couple days and then suddenly is MIA ;)
Nice to see you around here regardless of my negligence...

ANYWHO. I know, I've been doing poorly. Sometimes, life gets in the way y'know?
Then again...I definitely let it ;)

I actually have a few new things to share! But I'm going to hold out on ya until tomorrow.

Can you wait?
I think you can!

Well lately, we've been having no shortage of rain...but thanks to my blogging pal Amber, and her well wishes for sunny days, sunny days have indeed appeared! Just today, the sun came out today and with it, a big old smile on my face! (Now the Joker doesn't have to put it there for me - YAY!)

Why cannot I share more today?
Well because I haven't read a book in...well, many a month. And today I's just gots to do it!
I wouldn't say life is getting in the way...I got something up, didn't I?
A sister of mine was bugging me to give 'The Night Circus' a read quite some time ago and today...I'm starting ;)
This one's for you Hettie!

Love you too.

xo T

PS. Spidey (no, not Toby Maguire) has still not been found. I'm hoping he finally went to spider...hell.
Not because he was a bad spider... but because, in my world, that's where all spiders would go.
